KUROW RACES.
(To the Editor of the Oamaru Times.) Sir, — I see in your issue of the 6th instant, that, in your report of the Kurow races, my protest against Mr Swanson's Terry, for haying previously won an advertised race, was not entertained by the stewards, on account of " insufficient evidence." Now, Sir, as this is not correct, I will state the simple facts, which are these : — I have not been asked for evidence, not even once, previous to the decision of the stewards, which took place while I was absent from the meeting for about two hours. I desire to state that I had and have sufficient evidence to prove, to the satisfaction of any impartial man, that Terry did win the Maiden Plate at Temuka, near Timaru, on the 17th October, 18R7, which was an advertised race ; and, therefore, he had no right whatever to run at the Kurow meeting, except for the cup, which was an open race. Apologising for using so much of your space, I am, &c, J. Campbell October 22nd, 1868. [We obtained our in formation from a gentleman officially connected with the race-meeting referred to.— Ed. O.T.
