GENERAL SYNOD. mHE RURAL DEAN of Otago and I Southland gives Public Notice, (hat a Meeting of the General Synod will bo holden in Auckland, on tho 5th October next. Three Clergymen and four Laymen are to be elected as Representatives for the Diocese of Dunedin, for a period of three years. Laymen of the age of 21 years and upwards, who shall have signed the following declaration, namely : — "I , do hereby declare that I am a member of tho United Church of England and Ireland, m New Zealand," are qualified to vote for the Lay Representative of the District of the Diocese in which they reside, and every such Layman being a Communicant, may bo elected as a Lay Representative, whether resident or not in the district for which he is olected. ELECTORAL DISTRICTS. ONE REPRESENTATIVE FOR EACH. 1. From Dunedin (including tho city and suburbs of Dunedin) to the Mataura — Returning Officer, C. Caldwell, Esq., Dunedin. 2. From Port Chalmers to the Waitaki — Returning Officer, J. Allan, Esq., Oamaru. 3. Tho Golclfields — Returning Officer, T. E. Ochiltree, Esq., of Messrs Herbert, Lawrence. 4. Southland — Returning Officer, — Brodrick, Esq., Invercargill. If the persons nominated do not exceed the number to be elected, they will be returned as Representatives of the Diocese ; if they exceed the number, their names will be published, and tho electors will be called upon (o record their votes. Form of Nomination Paper for a Lay Elector : — " I , do hereby declare that I am a member of the United Church of England and Ireland, in New Zealand, aud I hereby nominate , as the Representative from the District of in the General Synod." Residence of Elector. Signature. Nominations must be sent in to the Returning Officers, on or before 12 noon of the 16th of Septomber next.
