The stock of F. Seymour, watchmaker, was sold by auction on Thursday, at moderate prices ; realising 1,180. There are six vacancies in the Town Council, for ■which there are eleven candidates ; the election takes place ou "Wednesday, the 9th inst. At a meeting of the Fire Brigade on Tuesday, it was agreed, owing to the scarcity of water, to form a Hook and Ladder Company, the apparatus for which •would costL50. The Landing and Shipping Company are about to erect a Bteam engine to haul up the cargo boats, in place of the capstan now in use. The agricultural and Pastoral Association meet to-morrow, to elect judges for their annual show on the 30th October. The Board of Works held a meeting on Thursday, but the business transacted has not yet been made public.
