OTEPOPO. ( FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT. ) Otepopo, 16th January, 1867.
The usual Annual Statutory Meeting fcr the elen tion of a new School Committee was held in th 8 Sehoolhouse on Monday evening, 14th inst., at thi hour appointed. A considerable number assembled, D. Main, Esq., was elected to preside. The 8e<a* tary and Treasurer was called on to give tho Eeport for the year, which, after some remarks, was adopt*! on the motion of Mr W. Falconer. The election of a new Committee was then proceeded with, whea the following nine gentlemen were, by show of hsa.it, duly elected : — Messrs J. Byley, F. Henderson, T. Robertson, W. Falconer, J. Cormack, D. Campbell Frame, E. F. Diehl, and A. Bruce. School Committee action here this year is likely to be associated with several unuiually important nut* ters ; such as the anticipated erection of a gorern< ment school, and a residence, the election of a Teacher, the Ac, and Committee comprising so manycredittbli names goes a considerable length to show that much public interest is elicited. A subject of to grf at importance as education always should, although it ■ometimei does not, call forth the very spirit of energy ; and I have been highly pleased to see you, in some of your late issues, advocate its olaimito public attention. At the same meeting, after the school businen wu got through, another subject was introduced for consideration — that of appointing trustees for the dm conveyance of the Cemetery ground here. Th» choice fell on the following gentlemen. Menn T, Henderson, D. Main, T. Robertson, J. Cormack, tod A. Anderson, jnr. This being disposed of, the aiiemblage dispersed.
