COMMERCIAL INTELLIGENCE. Oamaru Times Office, Monday Evening.

Several refreshing showers have f.illen dm ing the ]>iist few dnys. Although ai yet very slight, they have done a vast deal of good to pastures aud young ci ops. A laige cargo of timber has come to hand from Hobart Town by the Lady Emma, consigned to Messib Dalgety, Rutfcisiy and Co. By this vessel wo have Tasinuninn files to the 5th instant. The " Meicury" of tho 4th repoita that busiuess in eveiy department it> dull, and that transactions are confined to the supply of immediate trade wants. Flour is quoted at L13 ; wheat, Gs per bushel ; oats, 4s Cd to 4s 9d j potatoes, L410stoL5]0s; hay, L5 to L5 10a ; English bailey, i'm Cd per bushel ; butter, Is 8d : bacon, Od to lOd ; cheese, Is 6d to Is 7d, accoiding to quality.

LITE STOCK, STATIONS, WOOL, &c. Dunedin, September, 20, I860. Since tho ihsuo of our last report the stock market has remained without nny noticeable alteration, with the exception of an inci easing demaud for good quality of fufc stock. Tliore is no disposition on the part of holders of any description of stock to press sales, which, coupled with tho favourable advic a brought by tho July mail f mm Europe, will, we think, tend to establish a healthy market throughout the ensuing season. Our lalea have been large during the month (particularly in cattle, both store and fat), at prices as quoted. Fat Stock. — The supply of fat cattle has not been equal to our requirements, consequently all offered were taken by the trade at a considerable advance on our last quotations. One lot sold by us realised at least 60s per 1001b, but our sales closed lather easier, and we quoto present rate at tho yards 52s 6d to 55s. for tho best quality. Calves are scarce and iu good demand. Our sales ranged from L4 to LG, according to quality. Sheop have beeD in better supply, although for the most part of ordinary quality prices langed fiom 20» to 24i, accordiug to weight, or equal to about 5d per lb. Store Stock.— Tho few lots of sheep sold by us for delivery after shearing will not justify us in quoting established lates, as prices then will greatly^ depend upon the uumber coining to us from Canterbury, which if equal to lost year's receipts, will cause a reduction from piicestheu obtained. We have buyers for delivery after shearing who are looking for a greater reduction than we think will be realised. Tiansactions in sheep in tho wool have been very limited, and prices tiro merely nominal, say, 2, 4, and G-tooth ewes, 22s to 25a ; full mouthed do, 14s to lbs ; hogsjets, equal sexes, 12a Gd to 14s: wethers, 13s Gd to 14s Gd. Cattle are in nctivo demand, and of easy sale at fully our Lite quotations, sivy — Mixed nges and sexes, at L8 ]0s to L9 lUs ; bullocks over two years old, at L10 to L12. Dairy Stock.— Well-broken cows, in full milk or near calving, are much wauted, and saleable at L1G to L20, according to quality. Stations. — Buy^r.* are numerous, and aro inclined to invest at full value, but few desiiablo properties are offering. We have sold, on account of Messrs Grant and Maitland, tho " .Peninsula" and "Staircase" Huns, Nos. 331 and 345, on Lake Wakatipu, 75,000 acres, with 7150 sheep, a few cattle and horses, to Messrs Boyes Brothers, for L15,5O0 ; and " North " Run, No. 346, on Lake Wakatipu, 80,000 acres, with 500 sheep, a few cattlo and horses, to Meusrs J. and T. Butement, for L4450. Wood. — Our London agent's advices, under date 26th July, are to hand, and report no noticeable alteration in pricos sinco the close of the Juno sales on tho 23rd of that month. The August aeries was expected to commence on tho 9th, the arrivals for it 1 eing about 110,000 boles, nearly one-third of which was New Zealand wool. .MauufncturoiB were doing a good iteady business, although still somewhat restricted by tho effects of the Into crisis, the rate of discount continuing at 10 per cent. An early reduction of the rate, however, was looked upon as certain ; and it was hoped that, in tho prospect of u termination of the war in Germany, and of a most abundant hai vent, pricos at the August series w mid nt least show no dccliife from those current nt tho lose of the Juno *ules. Clean long-grown wools still mo«t iu demand. In thi* mm Vet we have liltle to y.-port. A few mnall lots of skin find Bhpe wool havo y>ecn offering, but, pending the niuvul of the mail now

to hand, shippers did not seem inclined to enter iuto transactions. Shkkpskins aro still in good demand, owing partly to the fine weather we have had during the month for enabling fellmongers to get up their wool. We quote station skins for the season at 2s Gd each. Butchers' contracts this month aie from 3i 6d to 4s each. Hioks. -Veiy few offering. "Wo sold a small parcel at auction on tho 10th, dry cuied light hides bringing 10s each, and wet suited mediums 12s each ; demand good. Tallow.— We havo much enquiry, but uone coming forwai d.
