THE OLD CHURCHYARD. (From " Church yard Monodieis.")
BT J. G. SMITH.
Cold hearts are sleeping In the Old Churchyard, Warm hearts are -weeping In the Old Churchyard, Friendship is bending, Love's soul is rending, Prayers upsending In the Old Churchyard. Wild winds are sighing In the Old Churchyard, O'er heroes lying In the Old Churchyard j Epitaphs hoary, Blazon their story, Sleepers in glory, In the Old Churchyard. Lonely each pillow In the Old Churchyard, 'Neath the grey willow In the Old Churchyard, Countless their number, Deep is their slumber, No grief or cumber In the Old Churchyard. No foes are hating In the Old Churchyard. No fools are prating, In the Old Churchyard ; Spite has ceased plotting, Vile hearts are rotting, No fair name blotting In the Old Churchyard. No tows are plighted In the Old Churchyard, No wrongs are righted In the Old Churchyard No work, no toiling, No song, no beguiling, No rosy lip smiling In the Old Churchyard. Time's course is flowing O'er the Old Churchyard, Time's hand is sowing In the Old Churchyard, Seeds for Eternity, When time no more shall be, And Death for aye shall flee From the Old Churchyard, Invercargill, 23rd May.
