MRS EDWARDS' PREPARATORY SCHOOL, EDEN-STREET.
The mid-winter examination of tho pupils attending tho above school, and the distribution of prizes, took place on Thursday last. The Rev. Mr Gifford conducted the examination. The pupils, we are informed, acquittod themselves very creditibly. The reading was careful and correct, even down to those who had not advanced far. Some of the upper scholars were quick arithmeticians as far a« the compound rules and practice. Tho writing both from copies and by dictation was bold and promising ; and in the subject of geography, tllo school evinced a good amount of general information, and a further knowledge of the map of Europe. The Rev. examiner expressed himself particularly well pleased with the cheerful and outspoken yet. respectful behaviour of the children, and took occasion, in awarding the prizes, to imprest upon them the duty and importance of diligence and regularity in their school duties, and told thorn how well off he considered them in having Mrs Edwards and her daughters for their teachers. A fortnight's holidays were announced.
