THE MUNICIPALITY.

(To the Editor of the Oamaru Times.) Sir, — At the late election meeting, financial reform was strongly advocated. Now, as Oamaru is to be formed into » municipality, I would have tho inhabitants adhere to the same principle in returning 1 men as councillors and mayor. Seeing also, that it will be easy for them to levy high rates on the inhabitants, and make them pay them, "nolens volens," I would respectfully offer a hint in time. " A stitch in time saves nine." I would suggest that the mayor should be allowed no salary, and that his should be a post of honor only, at least for a year or two. The other officers of the corporation should be paid as small salaries as possible. Hoping the ratepayers will bear me out in my suggestions. I remain, &c., ECONOMY. Oamaru, 2nd April, 1866.
