The pair went off at their best pace, and raced throughout, neither beinc able to get more than a head in advance until they got within the distance, when the young one slightly improved his position, and appeared to have the race, but the old mare struggled home most gallantly, and won on the post by a head. Time —1 min. 54 neos. There were several impromptu races of hacks, foot races, and other sports, which added greatly to the amusement of the company on the course.
