LIVE STOCK EXHIBITIONS.

(To the Editor of the Oamaru Times.) Sib, — Believing that the Dunedin Agricultural and Pastoral Association, if its operations are properly conducted, will be productive of great benefits to the Province generally ; allow me, through the medium of your widely-read columns, to refer to a circumstance which it were well for the society to guard against in the future. I am sure the Directors will only be too glad to receive suggestions regarding the management of such Exhibitions, and therefore hope that this communication will reach the eyes or ears of some one of them. The circumstance I allude to is this. I, with many others, hold it to be a very wrong thing for judges to be exhibitors in any class ; it is wrong, for instance, to have an exhibitor of sheep made a judge of horses, an exhibitor of horses a judge of cattle, and so on. Men are but men, and such an arrangement mill set them a-thinking. Can parties, perfectly disinterested in exhibits in any or every class, not be had to act as judges ? This is a very important matter, and if it did nothing else, it would prevent a very great amount of dissatisfaction, and effectually debar people from throwing out insinuations as *o judges playing into each others hands, <tc. Allowing an auctioneer who is to sell stock on the following day to be a judge is, I think, out of all reason. I need not say more, but I hope my meaning is plain. Yours, &c, Fair Plat. Oamaru, 10th March, 1866.
