The result of the contest for the representation of Waikouaiti is asTollows : — Mr W. D. Murison . . 37 Mr Vogel 35 Mr Thompson . . . . ... 1 Mr Murison -was declared duly elected. Mr C. E. Haughton -will be returned for Hampden. The constituency, -with 15 exceptions, is the same as that which he represented last"' session, being merely altei-cd in name. Capt. O'Neil and Mr Yogcl have been returned for the goldfields. Donald Hankinson, Esq., has been returned for Kiverton. Theophilus Heale, Esq., is a candidate for the representation of the town of Invercargill. Mr Yogel has resigned his seat for Waikouaiti in the Otago Provincial Council. E. Graham, Esq., and Colonel Haultain have been returned for Franklyn ; Mr J. M. O'Rorke for Onehnnga ; and Col. De Quincy for the Pensioner Settlement, Auckland. There -will be opposition in Dunedin to the return of Messrs Kcynolds and Paterson, in the person of Mr John Graham, who, if unsuccessful, declares in the same breath his intention of standing for Caversham. Donald Reid, Esq., M.P.C., is a candidate for West Taieri. Mr Hall has been returned for Heathcote against Mr Buckley, by a majority of 129 votes, the numbers being 368 and' 239. It was rumored subsequently that Mr Buckley intended to stand for Lyttelton. Mr Lance retires from the candidature for Ashley, and Mr Walker 1 , who was defeated at Akaroa, comes forward. Mr E. C. J. Stevens has been returned, without opposition, for Selwyn. Mr Francis jTollie has been elected member for Gladstone. v
