ARRIVAL OF THE ENGLISH JUNE MAIL.

SOUTHERN GENERALS INDICTED FOR TREASON. niESIDTNT DAVIS IN CHAINS. SINCE RELEASED AND IMPRISONED. AMNESTY PROCLAIMED. NEGRO OUTRAGES. BIRTH OF A PRINCE.

Oamaru Times Office, August 19th, 5.0 p.m. Intelligence of the arrival of the Mail steamer at Bluff Harbor was received here yesterday at noon, but, owing to eireumBtonces which have as yet, we think, been inadequately explained, it was found that the writing of the Telegraph Operator at the Bluff could not be deciphered here. The Operator here, Mr Lemon, states that he will bo unable to transcribe messages from that station until his batter.es are made equal in power to those in use there. We had made arrangement* with the New Zealand Telegraph Agency at Bluff Harbor for the transmission of the news immediately on the arrival of the Mail there, but we find it impossible at present to carry them out. The station at the Bluff is to us here useless, to all intents ; and not only is the Government wilfully defrauding itself of rerenue, but the public are compelled to wait nearly twentyfour hours longer for the transmission of the news from Dunedin. We hope soon to be able to announce that the General Government have beeu brought to see the necessity of putting things to right, and for the future to be wise enough to perceive the folly of doing things »o much by halves. To-day we were unable to obtain possession of tUc telegraph wire9 till a very late hour, in consequence of a pressure of private business, and there being only one wire at present available for the transaction of business between Dunedin and Christrhurch, through the falling of ft tree on the line between here and the former place on Sunday last, the delay has been greatly aggravated. We exceedingly xegret the delay which has taken place, but promise to have the whole matter properly investigated.

The Hero has arrived at [Port Chalmef9 with the English Maita oa board. The R.M S. Northam reached Hobson'a Bay on the 12th inst., at 11 a.m.
