Ada mine upon a lawn besitlo ilie river Loilei'3 slowly in the summer afternoon ; To the pleasanL bree/.e the linden shadows quiver; All, bow sweet t lie blackbird's tune ! Lo, flic flash of flying swallow ; Lo. swift cloxids (.hat seem to follow Mystic impulse of the silvery crescent-moon. Is she dreaming — that most exquisite of maidens — Of the ioy t hat *hal' be hers — ah, how soon ? Does her heart beat Lo love's delicious cadence, Sweeter than the blackbird's tune? Does she fashion forth an idvl Of the wooing and the bridal, And the dread delight that fills the honeymoon ? Life's an ocean, Ada mine, with wild abysses — We are floating on a calm and still lagoon. Perhaps the sweeinesa of our whispers and our kisses May turn bitter, all loo soon. Grief is joy's most 3\vifo pursuer — Yet, iny darling, for the wooer Carol gaily through (he summer afternoon.
