CRICKET MATCH. TIMARU v. OAMARU.

A match was played on the Oamaru ground on Thursday last, 16th inst., between two elevens of the Timaru and Oamaru Cricket Clubs. The day was beautifully fine ; very little wind was stirring, and except that the ground is very rough and unformed, nothing was left to be desired except the. presence of a larger number of spectators. A Cricket. Match is generally sufficiently attractive to collect together all those who can manage to attend it, and we were rather surprised to find in this instance that such was not the case. The toss being won by the Timaru side, they decided on putting their men in first, to the bowling of Messrs Lees and Roxby. The end of the first innings showed a total of 45 runs— the highest score being made by Mr Barnes, whose batting was very steady throughout. The Oamaru side then went to the wickets, Messrs Massey and Allen being bowlers. Their score had reached 54 at the end of the innings, being greatly assisted by the brilliant batting of Mr Roxby, who made 22 runs, knocking the ball twice into the Creek. After a short adjournment for luncheon, which was supplied on the ground by Mr Payne, the Timaru men again went in, and raised their total to 97, scoring 52 runs in their second innings — of which number Mr Dumergue made 22, batting remarkably well, and making some very free hits. In their second innings the Oamaru men scored 45 runs, making a total of 99 — thus winning the game by two rims, with six wickets to go down. The bowling of Messrs Roxby and Lees throughout both innings was remarkably good—wellpitched, and on to the wicket. We must not omit to notice the excellent wicket-keeping and long-stopping on the Oamaru side, only two byes being scored. Mr Fotheringham made the highest score in the second innings, in his usual dashing style ; and Mr Lees, when he carried out his bat, had his eye well in, and was in excellent play.
