14th March, 1865. (Before Messrs Fenwick and Allan, J.P.s)

John Ballantyne was charged by T. W. Parker, Esq. with furiosly riding a horse at Otepopo, on 2nd instant. Mr Parker, being sworn, stated that as he was leaving Otepopo on 2nd inst., he saw the defendant standing by a horse near Reynold's Hotel, the witness had not proceeded far when he he heard a horse galloping after him ; the defendant then passed at «v furious rate, calling to witness and shouting to him to get out of bis way as he could not pull up. After going some distance defendant returned at the same pace shouting as before, 1 and repassed the witness several times, until at length the witness was driven off the road to make room for him. A witness named Henry concurred with the previous evidence. The defendant was fined £5, together with costs £2 9s., which sum he paid. Mr Whitmore, brewer, Oamaru, made special application to the Bench for a wholesale license as a brewer. Ho stated that he had not been made aware of the necessity for this application in time to give the eight dAys^noJififl.required by the Act. A» the provisions of .the tDrdinance are imperative, the Bench could not interfere, but referred the applicant to the Superintendent, stating that they would recommend his application to be granted.
