THE MECHANICS' INSTITUTE.

The following communication bas been received by the Hon. Secretary : — Provincial Secretary's Offics, Dunedin, 3rd March, 1865. Sir,— I am directed to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 20th ultimo, thanking the Government for the site for the Mechanics' Institute, and further to acquaint you that the Chief Surveyor has been instructed to take the necessary steps, in concert with Mr Parker, for selecting and surveying the site in question.
