OPENING OF THE WESLEYAN CHAPEL, OAMARU .
On Sunday last, the 3rd instant, the new Wesleynn Chapel (a neat sandstone building, capable of seating 200 people,) was opened for divine service. The opening service was conducted by Mr Mathias ; Of il vert, of Dunedin, deputed to take the place of the Bey. I. Harding, who was prevented from being present by a serious accident. The afternoon seivice was condxicted by Mr Thomns Ferens, and the eveniug service by Mr Henry Flamank, the Home Missionary of the district. The congregation was excellent, and the music Tf ry good. The harmonium was presided over by Mr J. P. Baker, who discharged his task with credit to himself. The collections at the three services amounted to f 1 8 The following evening (Monday), a tea meeting was held, at which there were over two hundred people. Mr Henry Monson presided. The tables were well laden with all the delicate viands of the season, and tastefully laid out. All present seemed to enjoy themselves thoroughly After tea, addresses were delivered by Messrs Grenfell, Calvert. Spencely , Ferens.' and Flaroank; and from the repeater), and sometimes prolonged applause, yre conclude they were appreciated much. At the close of the meeting, a collection was made, which, together with the proreeds of tickets and the collections of the previous day, amount to £100— thus making the total (in round numbers) £250, against an expenditure of £450. The stones for the building were gratuitously carted. Other valuable assistance was rendered, and presents made by friends to a considerable amount. The tables at the tea-meeting, we are informed, were given by the lady members of the congregation gratuitously. The meeting broke up about 10 o'clock, leaving no doubt a satisfactory impression on the minds of all present, and presenting a source of deep satisfaction to the promoters in knowing that they have succeeded in erecting the first place of worship in Oam am.
