Action at Coopers Beach

FIREWORK DISPLAY BY CRUISING CLUB On Saturday evening, the initiative and ingenuity of the Mangonui Cruising Club gave very many people, young, middle-aged and old, a note! night’s entertainment when they staged a firework display at Coopers Beach. Some considerable time was spent by the organisers in building a monster bonfire, and much thought and effort was expended in securing the importation from Singapore of a considerable number of unusual and good fireworks for the occasion. As twilight deepend into dark, there were cars arriving from all points of the compass, and at the zero hour, when the bonfire was lit, there were very many people at all vantage points awaiting the first of the evening’s proceedings. Sooij after the lighting of the fire, the first of the fireworks was kindled and there were the usual childish screams and squeals of delight as rockets soared into the sky, and as varied coloured flares went up, not to mention the screams of fright, real and simulated, as the explosions usual with such things took place. There were none present who were prepared to leav e the place until the last minute cracker had received its full share of worship in its explosion. Truly, a night which will be remembered for many days by the young, and a night to be talked of for many evenings by the not so young.
