HIGH SCHOOL MATCH As a finale to the High School Bar racks week, a cricket match was play * ed between Thirstaff (3rd Form am S.aff) v. The Rest. This was won by The Rest wh' scored a total of 62 ; Dykes 14, Whiti 13. Berghan 11, and bowling was Rivi 2 for 6, Cowie 2 for 7, W. 0.11 D Hart 1 for 0. Thirstaff knocked up 35 with Shan being top batsman at 21, Thompsor taking 3 for 35, Erceg 2 for 7, Lee 3 for 10. m County Cricket Match on Sunday At Coopers Beach on Sunday, March 6th, the Mangonui Cricket Association representatives will play a game * against Eastern County, which comprises players from Mangonui and Kaeo and environs. LAST SATURDAY’S MATCHES On Saturday, the first game of the third round of the Mangonui Cricket Association’s Senior Grade Championship was played. Kaitaia. playing Victoria Valley on the latter's home ground, had a sixpoint win by an innings and seven . runs. In the Valley’s first innings, the batsmen failed badly and managed to scrape together only 29 runs, 11 of which were made by F. Panther. Only two bowlers were used to take the wickets, Russell being responsible for taking 4 for 9, and B. Thompson 5 for 17. Kaitaia batsmen opened confidently, and after Jameson and Russell with Mackintosh following, had taken the sting out of the bowling, they went on to total 142, with Bradford having made a nice 50 before being bowled by W. Panther. In the Valley’s second innings, they strived desperately to make runs so that the game might be pulled out of the fire, or at least save two points, but it was not to be, as the most they had managed before the last man 1 * w r as dismissed w - as 106. Nomads A suffered a first innings defeat by Nomads B, the latter ad- . vancing another four points on the championship table. Nomads B went in first to bat, and until J. Beazley was partnered by Dykes, it looked as though there was to be a small score. This partnership took the score from 4 for 12 to 5 for 60. A toial of 87 was reached before the last man was dismissed. Nomads A replied with 70, 21 of »v.-hich was made by D. Wilson. This was a really fine effort, and it could be confidently said, that he is the most improved batsman in the competition. Nomads B again went to the crease and declared at 73 with 8 wickets down. B. Thompson, having batted confidently to make 15, was the npcout man. , Noads A were left with 90 runs to get in 30 minutes, an almost impossible task, but due honour must be .given, as they went to the crease prepared to give it a go. At stumps they had amazingly reached a toial of 75 for the loss of - seven wickets, and it is to be wondered just what the result would have been with a further 10 minutes of play.
