Legal Aid
(Dedicated to my friend, J. 8.) I dreamed that on my aching heart The hand of Death was lain, And from this sordid world I’d passed Into the heavenly plane. Before me lay majestically A court room deep and wide, ’Twas sparsely filled with sduls like me Who fell in by my side. I scanned the faces of the few, Who’d come from near and far, And realised I faced at last, The final Judgement Bar. A stranger gently pressed my arm And whispered, “Have no fear, This is the Final Judgement, Pal, And all are equal here.” The vastness of that spacious court With fear had chilled me thro’, I looked for faces I had known, But they were missing too. Then I searched around for legal aid Throughout the heavens fair, Alas, alas, I searched in vain, There were no lawyers there ! Wallie Hales. FAIRBURNS WOMEN’S INSTITUTE At the November meeting of the Fairburns Women’s Institute held in the hall last week there was only a fair attendance. Mrs. Hoskin, president, was in the chair. Pennies for friendship, for A.C.W.W. funds, were collected. A bereavement card from Mrs. Trigg was read. A report on the Federation biannual meeting was given. Fairburns will be joining in the picnic to be held sometime in January. Notice was given that a display of handcrafts will be held in Kaitaia in February. As several members will be away in December, it was decided that no meeting would be held in that month. The President’s letter from “Home and Country” was read. Calendars were on sale. The roll call was “a child’s funny saying,” and brought many amusing answers. Mrs. Buckingham won the gift that had been donated by Mrs. West. Mrs. Atkinson gave a very interesting demonstration on the making of feather flowers. The competitions for the month were two roses and something made from a yard of material. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs. Hoskin and Mrs. W. Fisher,, and this concluded a very pleasant meeting .
