A CLARIFICATION
I Some flouht has been cast by enquirers on the accuracy of a statement published in the article dealing with the efficiency of the Kaitaia aerodrome, in Friday’s “Age. 1 I Readers are asked to note that the • i “all-up” weight of 5000 lbs. quoted in ’ | respect of the Dakota aircraft which i j visited the Kaitaia aerodrome recent- > ly, is quite correct and refers to the ■ I actual load the aircraft carried. It 1 1 is understood that the statement was - misconstrued to the extent that it was | accepted as referring to the gross / j weight of the loaded aircraft. A point - I of interest in this respect is the maxis ' mum permissible gross weight of a f j Dakota aircraft for take-off. It is it about 11 tons or 26,000 lbs. The airp craft empty, i.e., minus fuel, oil and t- i crew, is approximately 17,000 lbs. n (N.B. : These figures are only ap- | proximate).
