COMMITTEE MEETING Teams represented at the committee meeting of the Mangonui Basketball Association on Wednesday evening were Kaitaia, Ahipara, Pukepoto, Te Kao and Mangonui. The Association’s President, Miss Betty Sefton, occupied the chair and welcomed td the executive Miss Joy Sowter, who accepted appointment as Secretary, replacing Mrs. C. B. McKinnon, who held office temporarily. Nominations were received from 14 teams for entry into the season’s County competitions which will again be divided into two sections, “A” and “B,” play to commence on Saturday, May Bth. The teams are : “A” Section—Ahipara, Awanui, Jligh School, Kaitaia (2), Pukepoto (2) and Waiharara ; “B” Section—Awanui, High School, Kaitaia, Kiwi United, Mangonui and Peria. It is expected that all of these teams will enter the Knockout competition for the Peter Pan Cup, which will be played off at Kaitaia tomo - row (Saturday). The trophy will be held by the winning team until challenged during the season. It is possible that a team from Te Kao will be available, and in addition late entries will be accepted. The competition draw has not yet been freed for publication, but it is anticipated that it will be available early next week. Though the appointment of selectors for a county representative team was discussed, no finality was reached. During discussion of the season’s inter-county competitions, it was resolved that an approach be made to the Northland Association with the proposal that the Woolworth Cup (which was won outright by Mangonui representatives last year) be redonated. Mi-s. McKinnon, Mangonui delegate to the Association, was instructed to bring this proposal to the notice of the Secretary with the suggested proviso that the team holding the trophy have the right to nominate the challenge ground.
