D.H.S. for Eastern Part of County
When the Minister of Education was up at the opening of the Parapara Native SchooVrecently, he was approached by a deputation pointing out the need for a\district high school somewhere in a \entral position in the eastern part \f the Mangonui County. \ The matter was further! advanced when, on Monday last, Mr. p. BlcCarrol, Ward member on the/Education Board, Mr. Sinclair, Transport Officer of the Education Department, and Mr. Hume, School Transport Officer, met the representatives/of the local . School Committees to discuss the i proposals. / ! A preliminary meeting of residents j of the various school districts was I held in Carton’s Hall, Oruru, and a ! resolution favouring the formation of ! a district high scljfool passed, and suggested sites were considered. Schools represented were Mangonui, Oruru, Peria, Paranui, Parapara and Lake Ohia. Last Monday’s meeting was held in the Oruru school, and Mr. Sinclair remarked that it was one of the best meetings of the sort he had ever attended. After a thorough discussion, Taipa was favoured as the site for the school. Centrally situated, in a position where three roads converge, the site is a dry, ’.clean one near to sea and river, thus offering splendid bathing facilities. From the numbers on the various schools submitted, there appears to be sufficient to warrant the establishment of a District High School for the immediate future. It was suggested that the nucleus of the new school be formed by consolidation of the Oruru and Paranui primary schools. The visitors were’Recorded a hearty vote of thanks for their visit and to the close attention to theW tails outlined by the various speakers.
