ART EXHIBITION Another major for the Kaitaia Branch of the Arts Service is assureijfby arrangements which have been faialised for the presentation of an A Apxhibition in Kaitaia on October lOtht The Exhibition will be both comprehensive and instructive as it will include about 30 original works by NAv Zealand ar tists, several large plants of popular paintings by well knoin Continentals and examples of designs, both good and inferior, for wajpapers, textiles and other articles offeveryday use. The Exhibition wilnbe accompanied by Auckland’s eminenrtgrt critic, Mr. Rex Fairbum, whose of knowledge in all the departments of art, will be at the disposal patrons. Mr. Fairbum will deliver a liecture in the evening, after which there will be a general discussion on the relative merits of the exhibits and on the general principles involved in the

study of art as it is practised today, compared with that of past generations and centuries. The Kaitaia branch is endeavouring to secure the co-operation,' of the school authorities so that it can make the exhibition available to school children as it is considered desirable that they too should be given this rare opportunity of broadening thenfield of academic study. / SCOUT TROOP BOTTLE AND NEWSPAPER DRIVE ,t The response to the Kaitaia Scout | Troop’s drive for bottles and newspapers which was conducted through- ' out the Borough last Saturday prov- | td so gratifying that only a small j portion of the area was canvassed. ! ST. JOHNS AMBULANCE FOOTBALL DAY It was arranged at a meeting' held in the Mangonui - County Council Chambers last evening that the St. John’s Ambulance football day benefit will be conducted!, on the Kaitaia Oval on Saturday, October 4th. The proceeds from this field day will be donated to the St. John’s Ambulance Brigade by the Mangonui Rugby Union as a token of Appreciation of the Brigade’s service * roughout the season and to expenses incurred by menjfcers and equipment costs. Tentative arrihgements for a comprehensive novelty programme have been made and details of the various fixtures will be published at a later (late. The main feature will be a challenge match between representatives of the northern football teams (Houhora, T e Kao arfd Te Hapua) and those of several sq&them county teams, while the programme will probably include matches between ladies’ teams, both j. Pakeha and Maori, Fire Brigade and Old Timers teams.
