Table Tennis
KAITAIA CLUB There was not as good an attendance as usual at the Table Tennis club night in the A. and ’P. Hall on Tuesday, due mainly to the cold, wet weather conditions. Still, those pres-'' ent spent an enjoyable evening in tingles, doubles and combines. Next Tuesday, the weekly club night will be replaced with a visit to Takahut ; the bus leaves the post office at 7 p.m. There will be plenty of seating accommodation, and members are asked to roll up in force to make the visit a huge success. TAKAHUE CLUB The Takahue Table Tennis members spent a very enjoyable evening on Tuesday last when they were visited by members of the Fairburns Club. Fairburns led by 37 to 27 in the singles ; in the doubles and combined doubles, however, Takahue won 31-1, making the result a draw, each Club gaining 38 games. A return match will be played at Fairburns in a fortnight’s time. Next Tuesday, Takahue will play a further match against Kaitaia. PURELY PERSONAL Mr. Neil Flinn, who has been attending Massey College, Palmerston North, returned home on Monday after a six months’ training course. Mrs. F. J. Fitzgerald left for Auckland on Wednesday after spending a holiday with her brother, Mr. A. H. Stanton. Mr. "Lyon, who has been the guest of Mr. J. Morrison, returned to Waipu on Monday. Mrs. Thornton, who has been stayl.ig with Mr. and Mrs. Jarrett of Pukepoto, returned to Auckland yesterday. Mr. John Reynolds and fiancee, Miss I’. Rennie, spent last weekend with Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Reynolds. , Mrs. Hazeldine of Invercargill, returned home yesterday after spending a. holiday with her brofher, Mr. J. Pickles. Miss Joan Stensness .returned to Auckland on Wednesday to resume duties in the Wellesley St. Post Office after spending her annual leave with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. Stensness. Mr. A. Perkins travelled to Whangarei on Monday to bring home his sister, Miss Monica Perkins, who has been an inmate of -the Whangarei Public Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. C. Werner travelled to Auckland today to spend a short holiday with their daughter, Mrs. D. Murray, Glen Eden. Miss Heather Flinn returned home on Wednesday after a holiday spent in the south. Mrs. L. Tattersall travelled to Auckland today to spend the weekend. Mr. L. A. Mclntosh travels to Auckland tomorrow for a few days. Mr. L. Tattersall travelled to Wellington on Tuesday where he is to | pick up a new car for his taxi ser- j vice. Mrs. Ron Pitchford returned to ] Auckland yesterday after spending a j holiday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Puckey, Kaitaia. Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Thompson left j today for Auckland on a business trip. Mr. and Mrs. Max Craig of Auck- j land arc spending a few days with Mr. Craig’s parents. BASKETBALL DANCE Kaitaia’s young people took full ad- . vantage of the opportunity to enjoy j themselves at the Basketball Dance j held in the A. and P. Hall on Wednesday night. The fast floor and ex- j cellent dance music provided by the ( Versatile Orchestra was sufficient in- j centives to keep the company on its feet throughout the greater part of i ihe programme. A welcome extra was provided by | Miss Marie Kitchen and Mr. Sefton j as m.c. supervised the programme which included two novelties won by Mr. Lewis Beard and Miss Ruby Timbers and Mr. Rex Dawson and Miss Gladys Brljevich. Supper was provided by members of the Kaitaia Public Services Basketball team and dancing was resumed and continued to a late hour.
