Kaitaia Gliding Club

The election of officers and discussion of activities of the newlyformed Kaitaia Gliding Club took place at a meeting of interested persons held in the Kaitaia Library Rooms last evening. w The keenness of foundation members was exempli:ied by the twenty-odd who attended, and it is certain that such an active organisation will shortly have sufficient funds to commence building 'Perations. Appointments were as follows : . resident—Mr. W. Lysaght ; Secreiary—Mr. K. Hollay ; Treasurer Ir. K. Timbers ; Committee Memers—Misses E. Flinn and B. Watts, ; nd Messrs. R. Benton, J. Buckle and J. Foster ; Finance and EntercainAient Committee Miss N. Hanlon, Messrs. T. Northwood, B. Muliigan, the President, Secretary and Treasurer. Business discussed was of a genial nature, ranging from means of ncreasing the membership to the types of craft most suited for Club use. It was decided that a picnic .arty uould be held shortly to give members an opportunity of studying certain areas in the locality from which a suitable landing strip could be selected and obtained. The President stated that he had already spent some time and thought on this matter and \,as of the opinion that very little labour would be required to transiorm any one of two or three appai ntly unused areas into eminently suitable strips. It was suggested that a power winch be used for take- ;ffs, so that a tow-car and long runv. :.y could be dispensed with. R( c immendations received at the Glid :g Conference held recently in Wellington regarding the most suitable types of craft for Club use, were pres tr.ted to the meeting and the Secretary was instructed to write to the various manufacturers asking for gen ral specifications of the types mer.iioned so that the Club could decide upon the one most suited to local conditions. lue Finance and Entertainment Committee met later to discuss ways and means of raising sufficient funds to enable the Club to commence building as soon as a decision upon type had been made, and it is expected | the l the date of the first function will I be announced shortly. Before the meeting was declared clo id, it was agreed tfiat as subscriptions were called for this month the Club’s financial year should end on June 30th, and that regular meetings would be held on the second Morday of each month.
