Highlight of the week was the fine performance registered by Mrs. G. Molloy in winning the singles championship of the Whangarei Croquet Club’s annual tournament. Congratulations to Mrs. Molloy. * Hollay Memorial Handicap matches played recently are : Mrs. Puckey (6) defeated Mrs. Dykes (11), 26-22. Mrs. Dykes (11) defeated Mrs. Copland (11), 26-12. Mrs. Dykes (11) defeated Mrs. Cave (9), 26-18. Mrs. Freeman (4) defeated Mrs. Copland (11), 26-9. Mrs. Weber (5) defeated Mrs. Adams (9), 26-14. Mrs. Weber (5) defeated Mrs. Puckey (6), 26-17. In a Buttons match, Mrs. J. E. Wilkinson and Mrs. Subritzky defeated Mrs. Wiggins and Mrs. P. Wilkinson. * Mrs. Whitburn and Mrs. Steen de- I feated Mrs. Stanton and Mrs. Subrit- ! zky for the Kiwis. GIRLS’ MARCHING TEAMS Marching teams at the Kaitaia Show will be competing for a ten guinea cup. It is expected that the j three Kaitaia teams will be competing together with two teams from Puke- j poto, one from Ahipara, while there j is every possibility that a High j School team will be entered. Wha- I ngarei and Kaikohe will also be represented. The “midgets” are the second Pukepoto team. Trained by Jesse Rob- j son the team includes many ten and eleven-year-olds. They are costumed in traditional Maori style. This team has shown remarkable ability in prac- | tices which are now held twice weekly. Entries for the marching competition close on February 22. Teams representing Kaitaia and Pukepoto will be marching at the I Broadwood Show on February 22nd.
