BOWLS
The following is the draw for tlv. opening rounds of the senior singles and pairs championships of the Ka:taia Bowling Club. Also the junioi pairs and handicap singles. Owing to the heavy commitments of the Club this season the match committee stresses the importance of ,bowlers taking part in the championship singles and pairs playing their matches within the set time allowed. The first round of the singles championship must be completed on or beforeNovember 23rd. This competition has 35 entries and with the four scratch men in the Club, Hammond, Freeman, Lewis anti Parker competing, will most decidedly prove hard to win. R. Lewis is the holder of the title and veill be attempting to win for the third year in succession. A previous winner on a number of occasions, Mark Hammond, who put Kaitaia on the bowling map by entering the semi-finals of. the N.Z. Bowling Singles Championship in 1945, is taking his game much more seriously this season and will undoubtedly be a strong contender. R. Freeman, considered by many competent judges to be the outstanding skip in the club, and a winner of many events before coming North, is sure to make his presence felt. Another past winner is J. B. Reynolds who is an interesting entrant. J. B. has played very little during the war years and will be making more or less a come-back. The possibilities are never-ending in bowls, but among the younger brigade, runners-up in the past two seasons in L. G. Thompson and E. Clark, along with J. Dykes and F. Braithwaite, must enter calculations. The championship pairs is sure t) provide plenty of interest culminating with the champion of championship pairs played on the Club’s own greens in March. Last year’s winners in Clark and H. Mclntosh, are defending their title. It will be remembered that after winning the junior title they won the senior event at their first attempt. season’s junior winners were Wilkinson and Weber. Previous winners in Lewis and Cowie, and two strong pairs in Freeman and Surman, and Hammond and Hanlon, will no doubt be favourites. Championship Singles B. Wright a bye. Molloy v. Maria. Cowie v.
