Waiharara News SOCIAL EVENING

A social evening was held in the local hall yn May 7th to welcome Mrs. Radotfkovich and two children who have/come to live in this district. Mrs. Radojkovich and family were evacuated from Jugoslavia to Egypt and dwelt there for some years until arrangements could be made for them to join Mr/Radojkovich in New Zealand. \ Mrs. Yelavich \ade the welcoming speech and Mr. Radojkovich replied. Mrs. Radojkovich made an appeal, through Mr. P. Yerkovich, for contributions towards b hospital for homeless chldijen in /Jugoslavia, and the response was splendid, £4O beingcollected in a very ahorl time. Dancing took up fnost of the even ing. Mr. M. Srhoj /was m.c., and the Hot Shots of Waiharara, the musicians. Mr. L. Gaelic played an extra, a blending of old Jugoslavia tunes which gladdened the hearts of the many emigrants from that land, and Annie and Ljubo Bilicich sang old Partisan songs, Mr. S. Urlicn and Miss Alma Yelavich won the monte carlo waltz. A dainty supper was enjoyed and the evening came to an impromptu climax when the lights suddenly went off in the middle of a dance at 11.30 p.m. Torches were flashed and midst laughter and chatter the hall soon emptied. This is the second welcome of this description to be held here recently, the other family to arrive being Mrs. Bilicich, two daughters and son. In both cases the guests of the evening were presented with a dinner-set and a donation of money to spend on their new homes, as a token of goodwill from the district. During the first welcome, as in the latter, a large sum of money was collected to go toward the distressed of Jugoslavia. DANCE The Paparore Footballers held a dance in the Waiharara Hall on May 11th. Lewis Hobson was m.c., and the Waiharara Hot Shots were in attendance with their swing band. A very jolly evening was spent, dancingending about 11.45 p.m. The monte carlo waltz was won by Mr. J. Jelicich and Miss Annie Bilicich. Miss Violet Yelavich won a bag of kumeras. A dainty supper was served by the Paparore ladies. BASKETBALL On Saturday, 11th inst., the basketball players journeyed to Kaitaia to take part in the tournament held there. Waiharara played two games, winning one. PERSONAL Mr. and Mrs. K. Matijevich are at present in Whangaiei. Master Pat Shine has arrived home for the May holidays. ,
