Oruru News
The annual school picnic and p -izegiving of the Oruru School was held recently and was well attended by parents, friends and pupils. The committee had arranged an entertaining programme of novelty races, tug of war and other events, but the big feature of the day was the prizegiving, when Mrs. Garton, senior, officiated. Generous donations byvalley residents made it possible for every pupil to receive a gift. The same donors also provided the ice cream, soft drinks and sweets, which added a real party air for the children’s enjoyment. In a short speech the chairman paid tribute to all those who had made the day such a success, mentioning especially Mr. and Mrs. Simmonds for their work in selecting the p ; zes, and Mr. J. A. Maria for allowing the use cf the picnic gf-ound. The rocking horse made and jdonated by Mr. T. J. Garton was won by Michael Joseph Burke.
