Knitting for the Air Force

Providing aerial cover for Mur- | mansk convoys, hunting submarines j in Arctic waters, climbing to great altitudes over Berlin, or out-manoeuv- j ring Messerschmitts over France, ris- j ing from the steaming heat of Solo- | mons jungles to the freezing tempera- j tures of the stratosphere to strike back at the Jap.—the airmen of New j Zealand are doing their job and doing | it in the most impressive manner. In the preservation of their lives and health of importance almost equal to their armament and acquired skill in flying, is that they should be warmly and adequately clad. It is here that the Northland Air Force Relations Committee, and through it, every woman in Northland, can lend a hand to our gallant men. Highly important in the work of the Air Force Relations Committee, the Northland branch of which is centred in Whangarei, is provision of clothing' for the aviators and members of the ground crews. Air Commodore Buckley and Mrs. Buckley, contacting the president of the Northland committee at Whangarei broadcast an SOS for knitted goods—pullovers, mittens and balaclavas, gloves and scarves. “The need is very urgent for all classes except socks, which are not required,” said Mrs. Buckley, who is president of the Auckland committee. Call or Write Ample supplies of air force blue wool are available from nooms in the Whangarei Y.W.C.A. building, which is the distributing centre for Northland. Any women in Northland able and willing to assist, but who cannot call for supplies personally may write to the Air Force Relations Committee and have materials and directions forwarded by post. Establishment of sub-centres at Dargaville, Kaitaia, Kaikohe and other centres throughout the North is hoped for. The appeal is : Do something practical for the airmen on battle stations, who are giving their all for you.
