WELCOME HOME TO AWANUI SOLDIERS
The Awanui Patriotic Committee held its official welcome home to the local returned lads last Thursday evening. The welcome took the form of a smoke concert held in the Parish Hall, the returned men and friends being the guests of the evening. Those responsible are to be congratulated on the running of the function, everyone present thoroughly enjoying themselves. A lengthy toast list was ably handled by Mr. Les West, while Mr. Allan Matthews was chairman. Entertainment was provided by Mr. Paddy Barray (Vocal) and Messrs. West, Craig, and W. Rose (humorous numbers).

After the business part of the meeting had been dispensed with and supper round a blazing fire, the mat once more held pride of place and Bro. Ross Michie’s team soundly defeated Bro. B. McKinnons team. The next meeting will be on August 3 at 8 p.m.
