Hall in honour of Miss Amy Hodgson, proved a function of utmost enjoyment. The crowd, though not large in number, were well rewarded for their weathering of the storm and made it a real party, dancing until midnight to the music of the Versatile Orchestra. After supper the president of the Association, Mr. A. A. Bell, spoke of Miss Hodgson’s work at all functions organised by the Old Pupils and asked her to accept as an appreciation of the members a fountain pen. Miss Hodgson responded. On continuation of the dance, a monte carlo was held, Miss Mary Puckey and Mr. Neil Flinn outlasting their opponents. Appeal for Sick and Wounded Fund Being Launched by Red Cross Society A monster appeal for the Sick and Wounded Fund is to be launched by the Kaitaia Sub-Centre of the Red Cross Society at its annual meeting next Monday night. In the course of an interview, an officer of the Society pointed out the seriousness of the position in Europe and said that the time was surely coming when some of our men wouid be involved and probably needing all
the comforts we could give them. Throughout New Zealand the Red Cross and the St. John’s Ambulance Association were combining in this monster appeal and already some £9OO had been raised in a few days in Auckland. This was the first big appeal launched by the Society in Kaitaia and the Mangonui County and it was hoped, in view of the perilous times in which we moved today, that, for the sake of our boys overseas, it would be loyally supported. Speakers from all local bodies as well as Ministers representing all Churches will be present on the platform. The meeting will be held in the Princess Theatre.
