From Our Correspondent at FAIRBURN
Bob-in Afternoon A bob-in afternoon for the Fairburn branch cf the Red Cross was held at th' heme of Mrs. A. Christensen on 15th May when the gratifying sum of £4 was raised. A dressed turkey donated by Mrs. T upton was won by Mrs. J. Rogers 'while Miss Mercia Coulter and Mrs. C. Rogers were the winners of two other competitions. A quantity of material was cut out and distributed to be made up into pyjamas and bandages, etc. Brisk business was done at a trading table laden with vegetables, fruit and cakes, etc. A happy social half hour was spent after which a delicious afternoon tea was served, the hostesses being Mesdames Dangen and Christensen. Mrs. Lupton proposed a very hearty vote of thanks to the hostesses and to all who had assisted such a worthy cause. Purely Personal Friends of Trooper Vincent Thompson, son of Mr. Vernon Thompson of Victoria Valley, will be pleased to hear that a cable received from headquarters says that he has been removed from the dangerously ill list to seriously ill, which means that there is an improvement in his condition. Mr. Gordon Hoskin left on Wednesday for the Papakura Camp. Mrs. Bruce Foster and daughter have returned from a holiday trip south.
