Purely Personal Mrs. W. A. Wrathall has arrived in Mangonui to spend the school vacation. Masters Winstone Wrathall and Desmond Laing are spending the school holidays in Mangonui. Mrs. A. Taaffe and children, who have been spending a few days in Mangonui, have returned to their home. Dr. Simcock and Mr. R. Perry spent the weekend shooting in the Mangonui locality. Miss Trimnell, who has been indisposed for the last couple of weeks, is now much improved in health. Mr. D. Hyland, who has been visiting Mangonui, has returned to Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. Stewart have motored south for the school vacation. Mrs. Tovey, who intends to spend some time away, left over the weekend. Misses Mona and Shirley Marchant and friend Marie Jones, Lynn Latta and Leona Subritzky are all spending the school holidays with their parents in Mangonui. Friday Night’s Storm About 4 p.m. on Friday rain started in this locality and developed into a big storm with thunder, lightning and very heavy rain. 625 points of rain fell in approximately four hours, which caused heavy flooding of all roads. Mr. and Mrs. Stan Harris at Cable Bay had to evacuate their house and take refuge in a shed on higher ground. The water was over the hand rails of the bridge at Mr. Harris’ gate and swept them away. Many sheep were lost in the Oruaiti settlement and could be seen floating down the harbour all Saturday morning. All vehicles for the south were held up at Oruaiti where the water was seven feet high over the road in one place and did not go

down until midday on Saturday.. The road from Oruru to Mangonui was blocked by a slip all Saturday but is now open.
