From Our Correspondent at AWANUI

Purely Personal Mr. and Mrs. Nicholls of Auckland are spending a holiday in the North. Mr. J. Cowie, who has been relieving at the Kaitaia Post Office, is now at Waihopo. Miss N. Feeley has been in the North, on holiday. Mrs. W. McColl is in Awanui with her mother, Mrs. Rose, who has been ill lately. Mr. and Mrs. C. Sankey have returned from a holiday in Auckland. Mr. Alex Steve of the H.M.S. Achilles, accompanied by Mrs. Steve, his mother, is in the Nprth on holiday. Miss Henehan, Miss Echlen and Mrs. Johnson are in Auckland for the school holidays. Mr. L. Bedford, accompanied by his daughter, is the guest of Mr and Mrs. Frew of Awanui. Miss Thurston of Ruawai is on holiday in Awanui. Mr. C. Herring of Awanui is le» • ing this week for Wigram to j'.in the Air Force. Master Raymond Thompson is spending the school holidays with Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Thompson. Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Dykins are on holiday : n the Rotorua iistrict. They are accompanied by their son, Earle. Mr. R. bteed of \\ aiharara is home from hospital. Miss A. Bannister has gone to Wha ngarei to join her parents. Shooting Season The shooting season opened with good weather for both duck and pheasant shooters, but no limit bags were reported, the best first day bag being four pheasants. The beach was well patronised and it was almost impossible to walk for more than a quarter of an hour without meeting up with other shooters. No good bags were reported from this locality. Farewell to Mr. M. Cochrane The residents of Kaingaroa and surrounding districts met last Thursday to bid farewell to Mr. and Mrs. Max Cochrane of Kaingaroa. Mr. Cochrane is going to take up his duties at a new school. Their popularity was evident from the large crowd who turned up, and the evening passed pleasantly in dancing and items. The music was supplied by Mr. L. Smith, with extras by Miss J. Christensen. Mr. Ted Cave gave a much appreciated song.

A cheque was presented to the guest of the evening by Mi\ Cave, as chairman of the School Committee, on behalf of the local residents, and speeches were also made by Messrs. A. H. Long, J. Johnson, G. A. Morphett and Q. Cosson. A really delectable supper was provided by the Kaingaroa ladies. M.C. for the evening was Mr. J. Pribiceivich.

On Friday afternoon a farewell was arranged at the school, when the children had their opportunity to say goodbye to their popular teacher, and they presented Mr. and Mrs. Cochrane with very nice little gifts. ‘
