MANGONUI

From Our Correspondent at

Red Cross Society Dance A dance was held in McKay’s hall last Friday night to raise funds for this outstanding cause. There was a very good crowd and everyone appeared to enjoy themselves. The music was voluntary and the usual duties of m.c. were carried out by Mr. Feisst. The competition for a cake which was donated by Mr. Feisst was won by Mrs. Noel Coulter. The Society will benefit to the extent of just over £7. Fishing Trip While fishing in Doubtless Bay on Sunday from the launch “Elaine,” Mr. R. Marchant and party hooked a striped marlin. The fish put up a great fight, leaping out of the water on numerous occasions and was finally landed after a two hours’ struggle. The weight was 302 lbs. During the day several swordfish and mako sharks were seen in the vicinity of Berghan’s Head. Owing to the fact that few launches fish in Doubtless Bay waters, this catch was the first big fish landed for over two years. Mr. Marchant is keenly interested in fishing, having been out on several occasions lately and although fish have been seen and strikes made, this is his first success.
