VICTORIA VALLEY On Saturday last the Victoria Valley cricket team travelled to Herekino. Batting first the visitors were dismissed by the luncheon adjournment for 107. Fred Panther was again top scorer with a well-played 41. Others to reach double figures were W. Thompson and J. Dawson with 15 each. Bowling honours went to Laurie Bourke who secured 6 wickets for 12 runs. After lunch Herekino were soon in trouble and when 6 wickets were down for 6 runs there seemed a possibility of the team not reaching double figures. However the later batsmen collected a few runs and the total reached 21. W. Dawson and W. Wrathall bowled well throughout the innings. In their second venture Herekino fared a little better and were finally dismissed for 61 leaving the Valley winners by an innings and 25 runs—a six-point win. FACTORY Mangataiore met Factory last Saturday at the latter’s home ground and a keenly played game resulted in a win for Mangataiore on the first innings by 102 rung. Mangataiore batted first and H. Switzer clean bowled W. Edwards I

with the first ball of the game. N. Rogers looked like making his usual big score until at 17 he played a ball straight back into the bowler’s (R. Herbert’s) safe' hands and he made no mistake about the catch. S. Switzer, however, soon got into his stride and although he gave several chances none was accepted and he compiled a nice little score of 62 before being clean bowled by W. Lawson. S. Kitchen also played a good bat and scored 33 before being caught by a sub oft' R. Herbert’s bowling. The remainder of the team all made under double figures and the side's total at the close of the innings was 143. Successful Factory bowlers were : W. Lawson 3 for 16, J. Churton 3 for 27, R. Herbert 2 for 43, C. Thompson 1 for 34, and 11. Switzer 1 for 2. Factory opened quietly but W. Craig was dismissed without opening his score. The bowling at this early stage of the game was excellent and no liberties could be taken with either cf the two opening bowlers, S. Switzer cr A. Rogers, the latter bowler putting plenty of spin on the ball and keeping the batsmen guessing, while the former bowled a fast ball occasionally keeping very low. T. Haughton was unlucky when, in attempting a leg shot he stepped on to his wicket. No Factory batsmen were able to make any large score and the only two to reach double figures were W. Lawson (14) and F. Begley (10). L. S. Smith played well to see four men out and carry his bat. The side were finally dismissed for the small figure of 41. Successful Mangataiore bowlers were : S. Switzer 1 for 6, A. Rogers 6 for 21, and W. Edwards 3 for 13. S. Switzer, although only securing one wicket, bowled four maidens. Details are : Mangataiore : N. Rogers c and b Herbert 17, W. The winners’ bowlers were particularly dangerous, Kelly doing the hat trick in the B’s second innings, while Mackintosh spun to advantage in the first ; Carr was also prominent. These bowlers also knocked up good scores, Kelly making 40, while the others reached double figures. For the B’s the batting was disappointing and the bowlers did not gettheir usual results. Marinkovich was on form but his fielders were not, so his average was not of the usual. Following are the details : Kaitaia B, Ist Innings : Campbell b Carr 3, Jameson c Matthews b Carr 10, Hoddle b Mackintosh 1, O. Williams run out 2, Paite b Mackintosh 0, R.
