MANGONUI MAORI HEALTH COUNCIL ELECTS OFFICERS
A meeting of the Mangonui Maori Health Council, which functions under the super-vision of the Health Department, was held in Kaitaia Courthouse on Friday, when a number of matters of importance to the health and mortality of the Maori people in the district were discussed. Cases of departure from the recognised standards of the Maori came before the Council, and further consideration was adjourned till next meeting. The following were re-elected to the council for the ensuing year : Messrs. H. K. Waiana (chairman). Perene Huirama, Mita Paratene, Hohepa Kanara, Kereama Ratima, Rapata Hoterene and Here Totana. “Our farms are New Zealand’s munition factories.” —President of Whangarei Farmers’ Union. ☆ ☆ ☆ Importers are protesting vigorously against the ban on farming machinery, particularly cream separators and shearing plant. The Argentine Ministry of Agriculture is organising an extensive and intensive educational campaign to check the spread of insect pests and plant diseases. Scientific delegations are to be sent out to establish contact with agricultural colleges and arrange lectures and demonstrations.
