Presbyterian Flower Show at Awanui

A most successful flower show was held by the Presbyterian Church at Awanui on Tuesday, although the weather had not been too kind. An extraordinary number of exhibits were staged in the floral classes, the cut bloom collection numbering twenty-seven. Exhibits came as far as from Kaeo, the ladies from that district contributing to the extent of sixty exhibits ; it is pleasing to note the cordial feeling is reciprocated by all flower societies from this district. The vegetables were outstanding, entries being more numerous than those staged at any shows in the district for several years. The exhibitors in the collection of vegetables class numbered twelve, the judge remarking that the first prize winner had gained 100 percent points on most exhibits. Entries in all classes numbered four hundred and twenty-five a truly wonderful effort, especially taking into consideration that it is the first show of its kind ever held at Awanui. This no doubt augurs well for it to be held annually. The committee worked as one and ably assisted the president (Mrs. Shalders) .and the secretary (Mrs. Frew). The judges were Mrs. Bloomfield and Mrs. R. H. Matthews (Roses and Cut Flowers), Mrs. D. R. Jameson and Mrs. W. (Seal'd (Decorative) and Mr. W. E. Dyer (Vegetables and Fruits).
