AWANUI WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

The Awanui Institute held its usual meeting recently in Evans’ hall, when Mrs. McCarthy presided. The book “Pioneer Tales” was received and discussed by members. Arrangements were made for the usual Christmas party to be held later in the year. Members voted against holding a Federation Show in view of Red Cross work. Mrs. Shalders gave an address on flower exhibits for the Awanui Flower Show. The competitions were won as follows : Most varieties Cakes from one mixture Jffrs. Switzer ; Christmas Gift (a basket) Mrs. Dykins; D’oyleys—Mrs. Dykins ; Juniors Most Cakes from one mixture —Miss H. Dykins ; Christmas Gift—Miss H. Dykins ; Worked D’oyleys—Miss H. Dykins. The hostesses were Mesdames S. Richards, Shalders and J. Smith, and the entertainers were Mesdames M. Bird and Akast.
