Red Cross Society The usual weekly lecture was held last Thursday in the Forresters’ Hall, Awanui. There was a good attendance, and the lecturer was again Dr. Simcock of Kaitaia. The subject taken this time was “Circulation, and How to Stop Bleeding.” The first aid lesson was applying splints to a fracture of the lower leg and first aid to a crushed foot. At the conclusion of the lecture Dr. Simcock once more gave a brief resume of his previous lessons. Purely Persona! Mr. H. Spenhake, who has been in the Post and Telegraph Department, has taken up the duties of assistant wharfinger at A. G. Frankham's shed. Mr. W. Aitken of Dargaville has become a member of the staff of the Awanui post office. West Coast Fishing The exceptionally calm sea caused by the easterly wind of the last few days brought a host of fishermen to the Waipapakauii turn-off and beach during the weekend. Porpoises were cruising very close in, and the mottled colouring of these fish could be plainly seen as they rode the crests cf the small swells running. Whether this affected the fishing it is hard to say, but no large bags of schnapper were reported, although one party took 22 dozen mullet in one pull of a net.
