THE PRINCESS, KAITAIA Tonight and Tomorrow Night “Panamints Bad Man.” —Smith Balew, singing cowboy, revives the more drilling aspects of the transport organisation in “Panamint’s Bad Man.” Ballew is cast as a Deputy Government Marshal assigned to break up the stage-coach holdups which have disrupted the Wells Fargo service. In typical fashion Ballew shoots his way into and out of trouble, adding some highly original touches of his own to the job of tracking down the outlaws. Assisting Ballew in this thrilling action picture are Evelyn Daw, Noah Beery Snr. and Stanley Fields. “The Devil’s Party.”—Highlighting the adventurous life history of five pals who emerge from one of the toughest districts in New York, “The Devil’s Party” stars Victor McLaglen in one of his famous he-man roles. One of the youths in manhood becomes a wealthy and ruthless night

club proprietor, a part played by the j brawny McLaglen. Two others become policemen and still another a priest. The only girl they ever welcomed as a boon companion and member of their “gang” develops into a beautiful night club singer. Romance, j ambition and even the shadow of j crime engulf one or another of them as they fight for place and prestige in the world, but in the end the enduring ties of friendship bind them together. Beautiful Beatrice Roberts, Paul Kelly, William Gargan, Frank Jenks, John Gallaudet, Ed- ! ward Gargan and Joe Downing have j important roles. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday j “The Girl of the Golden West.” California in all its romantic glory of the gold rush and mission days is brought to the screen in “The Girl of the Golden West,” co-starring Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy. A lavish musical, the new picture introduces several original musical numbers by Sigmund Romberg and Gus Kahn and a spectacular early California festival, “The Mariachie.” Adapted from the David Belasco play, “The Girl of the Golden West” is the story of the girl owner of the Polka saloon and dance hall, loved by the sheriff, Jack Ranee, but who falls in love with the bandit Ramerez. When the bandit is captured, the girl promises to marry Ranee if he will free Ramerez, but Ranee eventually realises that the two love each other and he vanishes from the proposed wedding, leaving the lovers in each other’s arms. The supporting cast includes Walter Pidgeon, Leo Carillo, Buddy Ebsen, Leonard Penn, Priscilla Lawson, Bob Murphy, Olin Howard and Cliff Edwards. AWANUI TALKIES Tomorrow Night “Sinners in Paradise.”—Highlighting scenes of elemental love and hate when nine passengers are cast away on a tiny desert island in the Pacific Ocean after a giant airliner has caught fire and crashed, “Sinners in Paradise” features Madge Evans, John Boles and Bruce Cabot in the leading roles. Other well known players in the cast include Gene Lockhart, Nana Bryant, Charlotte Wynters, Milburn Stone, Morgan Conway, Donald Barry and Willie Fung. Marion Martin, termed by stage commentators “the most beautiful girl on Broadway,” makes her screen debut in an important role. Monday “His Affair.”—Robert Taylor por-

trays a naval officer turned secret service agent to break up a gang of criminals. Victor McLaglen and Brian Donlevy are the leaders of the gang, and Barbara Stanwyck is Donlevy’s sister, with whom both Taylor j and McLaglen are in love. The story | unleashes enough thrills to suit any picture patron.
