Anzac Day Observance
On Monday, 25th April, a special Anzac Day service will be held in the Princess theatre, Kaitaia. Ex-service-men are to parade at the post office at 10.45 a.m., dressed in mufti with medals, from where they will march to the Princess, the service commencing at 11 a.m. After the service wreaths will be placed on graves of deceased ex-servicemen. At 9 a.m. the Rev. Father McCormack will hold requim mass for soldiers who fell in the great war. „ Poppy Ddy Tomorrow (Saturday) will be Poppy Day in the county, when all are asked to assist destitute ex-servicemen by purchasing poppies. In addition to the poppies there will be on sale ribbons for those who wish to donate more than the#humble shilling.
IvAITAIA W.D.F.U. MEETING The April meeting of the Kaitaia W.D.F.U. was held in Foster’s rooms on Wednesday, 20th April. Mrs. Buckle presided over a good attendance of members. The meeting opened with Mrs. Parker reading the creed. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames H. Parker and J. Sowter, and two new members were welcomed. It was decided on the motion of the president, seconded by Mrs. Parker, that the following- ladieis be delegates to the conference in Whangarei : -Mesdames Buckle, Morice, A. W. Masters, Pettit and Paulson. A letter was received from the Melody Makers dance band and was discussed and received. On the proposal of Mrs. A. G. Bell, seconded by Mrs. A. Masters, it was decided to send the annual subscription of £1 1/- to the League of Nations fund. Card parties are to be held monthly on the second Thursday afternoon in each month. The annual birthday party is to be held in the Parish hall on the 20th June.
Mrs-. Buckle won a competition. The hostesses, Mesdames Paulson, Parker, Puckey and Pettit, served a very dainty afternoon tea. TE PUHI WOMEN’S INSTITUTE Owing to sickness the annual meeting of the Te Puhi W.I. was postponed and was held the same day as the April meeting, the 13th inst. The following officers were elected : President Mrs. A. Tracey ; Vice-President Mrs. W. Dawson ; Secretary and Treasurer Mrs. E. Buckingham The committee consists of the above and Mesdames A. Edwards and A. White. The winner of the shield for March was Mrs. I). Tracey, and for Apr.’l Mrs. A. White Something for nothing was won by Mrs. W. Dawson. Lunch was served by the members. Tracey and C. Petersen 2nd. MANCHESTER UNITY NOTES All seats were occupied at the last meeting of the Loyal Kaitaia Lodge, Bro. A. Thompson presiding. During the initiation ceremony four honorary and four benefit members were put through. A committee was formed to make arrangements for the annual Takahue dance. The hall has been engaged for May 12th and the Ritz orchestra have been booked up.
Sister Alma Stewart won the gift competition. Supper was served by Sisters Gray, Marovich and Main. The members of the social committee put on a play reading which was quite a success, the members taking part being Sisters Powell, Gray, Bagley, Begley, Surnich and Bros. Watts and Powell.
The next meeting will be held sharp at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26.
