County Council Meeting.

The usual monthly meeting of the Mangonui County Council was held at Kaitaia on Wednesday when Crs. W. Vickers, chairman, J. N. Berghan, J. W. Steed, L. J. Matthews, F. Holder, H. H. Thompson, R. T. Wrathall and C. J. E. Barriball were present. Noxious Weeds on Crown Lands When the Minister of Lands was in the district, the Mangonui County Council placed before him the need for the eradication of noxious weeds from Crown Lands, and the Council has now received a communication from the Commissioner of Crown Lands asking for particulars of such lands on which noxious weeds are growing. The individual councillors are to furnish a list of the land in their respective ridings to the County Clerk, for forwarding to the Commissioner. The Willow Nuisance The councillors from the various ridings are to furnish the clerk with a list of property owners who have willows growing in rivers affecting public roads with the view of having notices served on them for removal of same. Legal notices, under the seal of the Council have already been served on property owners in the Crui u Valley. General A decision was made that the Council be represented by the chairman, Crs. Berghan and Wrathall at the Hokianga County Council’s proposed conference of the four Northern County Councils to be held at Rangiahua to discuss the non-pay-ment of native rates, the Council being in full accord with the views expressed by the Hokianga Council. All rates irrecoverable by law were written off. Roading Affairs The P.W.D. are to be asked to lay off the Paranui road, giving access to Mr. I. Pavolovich’s property, in order that the Council may have the necessary survey completed and the road legalised. The engineer was authorised to have 30 yards of metal spread on the access road to Mr. E. W. Foster’s at Oruaiti. This was in accordance with a request by Mr. Foster. Mr. Mate Matich, of Waipapakauri wrote objecting to the closing of the present used road giving access to his property. The engineer was instructed to see Mr. Matich and explain to him that the present used road traverses Mr. Thode’s property and is not a legal road. The road is now being put on to the legal line. The handrails to the Taipa bridge are to be repaired. It is proposed, at the engineer’s suggestion to build low rails so that truck bodies will not damage them, but the rails will act as a guide. It is not anticipated that the new bridge will be erected before the end of the year. The road to the Anglican Church at Mangonui is to be repaired. The engineer is to look into the position of Meffin’s access at Fairburn with the view of repairing the bridge and short section of the road leading from the main road to Mrs. Meffin’s property. The Government is to be requested to expedite the granting of the money required for the repairs to the main North road at Te Kao, where a section was washed away when a lake in the sand hills burst through its banks and the water swept down the aimuke stream. The stream is now flowing across the road and if nothing is done before the winter, it is probable that the road will be impassable, although the Council has carried out temporary repairs. The Minister of Lands, when he was in the district, inspected the road and promised to see if a Government grant could not be obtained for permanent repairs, as he realised the job was beyond the Council’s finances. Mr. Urlich of Lake Ohia, waited on the < ouncil in regard to his access from the main road. Mr. Urlich stated (hat if a new road of about 6 chains in length was put in, it would save about 30 chains of the old road, which could be closed. The engineer is to look into the position and report to the next meeting of the Council. RADIO Ltd.’s “ULTIMATE” Vibrator models are as usual in the lead for tone and efficiency.
