A. AND P FINANCES AND MEMBERSHIP
President Say 3 Membership Should be Larger IN Ilia annual report, which will he pre. sented at the meeting of members of the Mangonui Agricultural and Pastoral Association to he held to-night, Friday, the President, Mr. J. T. Clark, in dealing with the financial position of the Association says: “You will note by the profit and loss account that without depreciation the profit on the year’s working was £55, hut £132 has been written off the buildings and yards, and thus a loss of £77 is bliowu. The reason for this very high depreciation is to bring the hook values of our assets down to their market value, as was decided on over a year ago by your committee, and is, 1 think a wise step. “Comparing the revenue of this year with last year, it will be seen that under all headings there is an increase, the most noticeable being a £22 increase in revenue from the hall, and £l2 from the gate takiitgs on the day of the Show. I think members will agree with me in that the Show itself was an outstanding success, and that our finances are in a fairly satisfactory condition, the credit balance at the hank being £64, £55 more than at the beginning of .the year.” In referring to the Association’s last Show and to membership, the report • states that the entries in practically all classes of the Show registered®an increase, and again the work of the ladies in the hall exhibits was of outstanding merit. This vear the Parish hall was used to house the Women’s Institute work, and this was a decided advantage, as this section of the Show is commanding a great deal of interest, and our thanks are due to the officers of the Northland Federation of Institutes for organising this section. There was one feature that he did not consider satisfactory, he referred to membership. Although this had been slowly increasing, they were far short of the members of a few years ago. We number now about 90, while some years
ago there were 150 members. An organisation that is doing so much for the county as was theirs should command very much wider support than was at present the case, and lie considered that ways and means should be found for increasing their membership.
