That herald of Spring, the shining cuckoo (pipiwharerau) was heard last week-end in Kaitaia. * * * * At the monthly meeting of the Kaitaia D.H. School Committee on Monday, only formal business was transacted. * * * * The roll of the primary division of the Kaitaia D. H. School is 259 with an average attendance of 248. The secondary department roll is 56 and the average attendance, 53. * * * * The usual monthly meeting of the Kaitaia Town Board will he held on Monday evening. * * * * The schedules of the Kaitaia Horticultural Society’s Spring Show, to be held in the A. and P. Hall on Friday, November 13, are now on issue. * * * * The Mapu and the Horu, two of Messrs T. M. Lane’s launches, left Lower Oruru on Tuesday, with the last raft of logsA large number of logs have been rafted from Oruru to Totara North during the last year and there is now very little millable timber left in the valley. * * * * The early closing of the shops under the • new legislation, coupled with the extra half-hour of daylight under summer-time is being taken full advantage of by the tennis players among the shop assistants, and the Kaitaia tennis courts are in demand ever y fine evening.
