Concert at Takahue For Hall Funds

The concert, organised by tile TakaliueHall Committee, staged last Friday evening, was very successful, the Hall funds benefit ting considerably. In the lengthy and varied programme were several items by the children, including, “Ten Little Nigger Boys,” a Swedish dance “Reap the Flax,” a playette “Topsy," a folk dance ‘Jenny, Pluck Pears,” the following children taking part:—Peggy, Betty, Owen and Maurice Wright, Mary, Elina and Olive Kirtlam Nancy and Norma M asters, Terry Ford. Graham Sanders, Daphne, Winnie, Margery and Tlielm a Stewart, Hazel Beazley Maidie and Edith Drake, Elina Rogers, Audrey McCullough, Joyce Powell, Reina Bastard, Malv.i Ridings, Gloria Hodges and Betty King. A pianoforte duet was played by Misses Yolande and Reina Bastard, a song and an accordion solo by Miss D. McCormick, a recitation by Miss I. Veale and a musical monologue by Miss M Kirtlan. Two songs, “Ship Ahoy” ami “Riding Down from Bangor” were rendered with solo and ballet by Misses A. Carr, R and I. McCullough. U.Bastard, M Price, I.Veale and E. Rogers, and Messrs, Lvan and J. Wright. A one-act play “The Rest Cure” was enacted by Misses M. Price, A. Carr. I. McCullough, E. Rogers, and I. Veale A folk dance by the Wright Boys and a trio of young ladies and songs round the fireside, by a local party, and the final chorus by the assemnled company concluded the entertainment. • The floor was then cleared for dancing voluntary music being supplied by Mrs. H. Crene, M isses Yolande and Una Bastard, and Messrs S. Yates, E. Hansen and Ivan Wright. Mr. H. Crene was M C,, Supper served by the lady members of the committee,proved a most satisfactory finale to the evening’s entertainment. SCHOOL CONCERT AT WAIMANONI At Waimanoni, Awanui, last Friday night, a concert was staged by pupils of the Waikeri school in aid of school funds. Included in the programme were poi dances, hakas, and elocutionary items, and the children’s performance was a credit to their teacher, Miss Martin. At the conclusion of the programme Mr. H. Pukeroa, a member of the Waikeri school committee thanked the people of Waimanoni for their support, and the Rev. H. Brown spoke on behalf of the local people. Dancing took up the remainder of the evening. BASKETBALL GAME AND DANCE At Ahipara on Saturday the local basketball team, after a keen game, defeated a team from Ngawha by 13 goals to 6 in a match for the Waimirirangi Cup. Mrs. T. Walters was referee. In the evening a dance was held in the Roma hall, Mr T. Lane being M.C. Mr. M. Paratene, in congratulating the teams on their play and the Ahipara team on their success, spoke of the friendly spirit prevailing throughout the game.
