# mu SPECIFICATIONS ; ENGINE—“V” type 8-cyl. 90° L-head Bore: 3 f o *. Stroke: 3f • Displacement: 221 ,;übic inches. 90 at 3,800 R.P.M. Aluminium cylinder heads. Torque 152 ft. lbs. Short, compact engine allows maximum space for body. VALVES—Chrome nickel alloy steel valves resist burning—very simple valve operation with exclusive Ford permanently -at adjustment and large (mushroom end) wearing surfaces. These features, together with inserted valve seats of Tungsten chrome alloy steel, practically eliminate valve grinding. HIGH LEAD BRON/.E—Floating connecting rod bearings. COOLING—6-blade fan, 2 impellers. imperial gallon capacity. Water jackets extend full length of cylinder walls and partly around crankcase, thus regulating oil temperature. LUBRICATION—FuII pressure feed to camshaft, crankshaft and connecting rod bearings. CARBURET! lON—Dual downdraught with dual intake manifolds —gives Ford V 8 better petrol consumption than even 4 cylinders. IGNITION—SingIe unit with enclosed wiring, driven direct by camshaft—waterproof automatic control with vacuum brake. 3 r FORD LEAHS IN COMMERCIAL SALES . j ,ta V tfH 9 1 AL UUBLEDUTY V 8 Truck Engine—Full Floating Rear Axle-13 If or 157" Wheelbase includes Power Take-off, Governor and Oil Bath Air Gleaner Gross Weight capacity 12,500 hs. CLUTCH—Light pedal pressure. Single plate with (23 squ?re inches of surface—pressure augmented by centrifugal force—pressure increases as load increases. TRANSMISSION—4 speed and reverse with power take-off included—all forward speed shafts carried on ball or roller bearings. REAR AXLE—FuII floating type, axles have only to turn he wheels. Full load Weight is taken on housings—driving pinion is straddle mounted. KT. Z. REGISTRATIONS JANUARY TC SEPTEMBER 1935 SPRINGS—S emi-elliptic rear springs are free shackled at both ends. Both front and rear springs are free of all driving and braking strains which are taken by torque tube and radius rods. Auxiliary rear springs take maximum loads. Transverse cantilever front spring is mounted 4 inches ahead of front axle, permitting engine to be mounted 8| inches further forward, thus freeing maximum space for long bodies. EQUII £2l 485 NEXT BRAKES—4 7 1 square inches of surface or nearly 1 5 square inches per 100 lb. of chassis weight. Hand brake is quite separate and independent. Positive operation by dependable steel rods, separate for each of the 6 brakes so that any one is not affected by the others. TORQUE TUBE DRIVE—AII driving and braking strains are taken by the torque tube and front and rear radius rods which hold the axles always correctly aligned. Thus the only duty of the springs is to cushion the load and the brakes have positive mechanical operation always equalized. m ■ m m' * ■m m r - * m ■SI < > WE* 1 m mm ggPP® NORTHLAND MOTORS Track Nam 204 phone 12 KAITAIA P.o.
