Orurn-Peria Institute’s Ball

The Peria Hall presented a festive scene on Thursday night, 10th. inst., when the Oruru-Peria Womens' Institute held a ball in celebration of their fourth birthday. Decorations were carried out in green, red and yellow, the institute colours. The music was supplied by Christensen’s orchestra, with extras by Mrs Smith, Miss Kelly, Messrs Harris and Garton. Mr. W. Thomas was in charge of the floor arrangements and the grand march was led by Mrs F. Jacentho and Mr. C. Barriball.

Miss Matthews and Mr. A. Trigg won the chocolate waltz, Miss Lambly and Mr. C. Forsyth winning the spot waltz.

After supper had been served the beautifully decorated three-tiered cake, which was donated by Mrs S. Graves, the decorations being the work of Mrs Hancox and Miss Barriball, was cut and passed around. The caudles were lighted by Mrs Jacentho and extinguished by Mrs Francis senr., the oldest member. A representative from Mangonui, Fairburn, Takahue and Te Puhi Institutes each spoke a few words fitting to the occasion. Among the ladies present: Mesdames F. Jacentho—black georgette. C.
